How We Mill It

From forest to finished board, every step is done with care, and nothing is rushed.

01

Responsibly Sourced

We source black locust from landowners, foresters, farms, and fellow sawmills across Appalachia and the Northeast. Everything we use is sustainably harvested, and we never clear-cut. Through our reforestation program, we plant new locust seedlings so the forests we rely on keep growing.

02

Graded & Sawn at Our Mill

When logs arrive at our mill, we grade each one by length before sawing. Then we cut lumber to fill your order.

03

Air-Dried the Natural Way

Every board is stickered and left to air dry for weeks. This is the slowest method, but it's also the most natural and energy-efficient. As the wood rests and acclimates, its moisture drops gradually. The result is dimensionally stable black locust that performs on decks and other projects across the United States.

04

Selected, Milled & Finished

Once your order is placed, we hand-select rough-sawn lumber and bring it to our molder and finishing facility. We run it through the molder to your chosen profile for a clean, finished surface. Our facility also includes a full furniture shop, so we can build custom site furnishings, deck tiles, and specialty projects.

05

Hand-Graded to Your Spec

After milling, every board is graded by hand and pulled to match your order's specifications.

06

Trimmed, Sealed & Ready to Ship

We double-end trim every board and seal each end with a natural, wax-based end sealer. Then your order is packed and prepared for shipping.
