WMS BOATHOUSE AT CLARK PARK | CHICAGO, ILL.

A revitalization initiative of the Chicago River as a large movement towards ecological and recreational demands a clean up of the river, so the evolution of the WMS Boathouse project at Clark Park.
Sustainable Black Locust Lumber Decking evolved at the edge of the waters for the many avid rowers and boat enthusiasts to create a long black locust lumber wooden walkway for on and off access to the river.

The most utilized open green space in the City of Birmingham, AL. The 19 acre urban park, known as “Birmingham’s Living Room”, Black Locust Lumber siding specified for its longevity, endurance and natural rot resistance. BLACK LOCUST LUMBER siding was the leading source of sustainable building materials in this modern structure.

This high profile project was comprised of Black Locust Lumber’s, sustainable Decking, in addition CitiLog Newark Up-cycling of Gingko Trees on the Site (CitiLog Newark) has 2 You Tube Commercials link them here which were manufactured for interior wall panels for the exhibition space. An innovative and sustainable design of biodiversity in an urban public space.

HERON HALL - BAINBRIDGE ISLAND

A private residence, of Jason McClennan, Founder of The International Living Future Institute. Black Locust Lumber supplied the exterior ProFlow Permeable Pavers for parking surfaces allowing the proper drainage and reducing effects of erosion. ProFlow Permeable pavers naturally rot resistant, reduce heat island, and sequesters carbon.

QUEENS BOTANICAL GARDEN VISITOR + ADMINISTRATION BUILDING - FLUSHING, NY

This 1st, City of New York, LEED Platinum public space project, whose primary focus was to reduce the environmental footprint with an innovative approach to promote sustainability with the public buildings in NYC. Upcyling Trees on this site, was also another ecological and sustainable method to bring back the trees as lumber and created finished outdoor site furnishings. Black Locust Lumber’s Decking was supplied to the entrance way of the building and also included sustainable Black Locust Lumber for the Brise Soleil on the Exterior Glass large window of the Visitor Center.

JOHN W. McCormack Post Office and Courthouse | General Services (GSA) | Boston, MA.

This iconic, art deco, historic styled building was renovated to a successful modern space built to achieve LEED Gold Certification. The key design element of the project is a new, 2 level greenroof with a panoramic view of the City of Boston . A Black Locust Lumber Pergola was constructed as a shade component on the rooftop as well as a Black Locust Lumber Deck area for outdoor seating. From the greenroof, to the sustainable black locust lumber products, to the solar energy and stormwater management, makes this award winning project of 700,000 SF of restoration + adaptive use a premiere showcase of sustainable architecture at its best.

This award winning, higher education new campus in the heart of Budapest has been long promoting sustainability in higher education. Completed in 2016, BREEAM status was achieved. BREEAM, is the world’s leading assessment method for sustainable buildings.

This leading, global university decided to make sure that the principles of green architecture would make a significant statement and surpass all standards in construction and design. CEU achieved a “ Very Good” status, based on BREEAM, which means no parking spaces, smart hydration, support recycling, a black locust ProFlow permeable paver system on the rooftop , garden, and energy efficiency heating and cooling.

Stroud™ Water Research Center | Moorhead Environmental Complex | Avondale, PA.

A premiere, non-profit environmental research institutions, one of the best in the world. Stroud™ Water Research teaches education in watershed restoration, rainwater capture, and wetland treatment of wastewater. The Center has been pioneering research in the field of freshwater science for over 45 years. This incredible work has produced valuable information on how streams and rivers function. The LEED Platinum certification was achieved through various metrics such as stormwater management using natural landscaping, geothermal radiant heating and cooling systems, composting toilets and a green roof.

Black Locust Lumber Brise Soleil, a shading element on the exterior windows of this LEED Platinum building, is a simple and sustainable solution for reducing solar gain to lower cost and creating sustainable benefits.

Google’s 4th Campus development, Assembly at North First is located in San Jose, California. A redevelopment project by Gensler, a global Architecture firm, is a 27 acre campus has multi-corporate spaces which promotes collaborative workspaces, open green space with a car free areas and many amenities integrated into a sustainable built environment with elements of luxury and resort integrated into an office setting.

The Grove area with its pedestrian walkway has utilized Black Locust Lumber, ProFlow(trademark) permeable pavers are naturally rot resistant and are a stormwater management product which reduces the heat island effect, sequester carbon and are an alternative to the traditional concrete pavers.

THE 606 BLOOMINGDALE TRAIL | CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT | MICHAEL VAN VALKENBURGH + ASSOCIATES

Black Locust Lumber supplied our premium Black Locust for Bench Seating all along the 2.7miles of this elevated railway viaduct much like The High Line of NYC. This sustainable renovation project was to convert the existing trail into green space as a landscaped parkland with the design of Michael Van Valkenburgh + Associates.

This exceptional urban railway would benefit the community to join multi neighborhoods together through this common redesign where people were once divided.

WEST POINT FOUNDRY PRESERVE: Matthews Nielsen Architects

A historical site and nature preserve, this original foundry established in 1817 was key to manufacturing America’s first steam engines, locomotives and ironclad ships. New York CIty’s entire water pipes were also manufactured at the Foundry. The most reknown manufacturing was the Parrott gun canons which were considered instrumental to winning the Civil War.

Black Locust Lumber supplied the Robinia Boardwalk and Black Locust Site Furnishings within the Foundry. Black Locust is naturally rot resistant and requires no oils, or chemical additives to maintain its longevity.

CHICAGO NAVY PIER | nARCHITECTS | JAMES CORNER FIELD OPERATIONS | CHICAGO

The 3,300 foot long, urban redevelopment of The Chicago Navy Pier, is one of the top ranked destinations in the Mid-West of the US. Back in the early 1900’s, it was well known as a major shipping hub and recreational spot along Lake Michigan waterfront. 100 years later, the Chicago Navy Pier was a prime entertainment and public recreational location. Rich in history, it has been revitalized and recognized as a major iconic landmark and a beacon of American history.

Black Locust Lumber sustainable, custom profiled handrail system within our Black Locust Site Furnishings, was manufactured and installed along the entire length of this waterfront project.

This SITES® awarded project also harvests its own rainwater and also incorporated the use of select plants to help to preserve existing trees that were on the original site.
