Queens Botanical Garden
The Queens Botanical Garden's new Administration and Visitor Center is the first newly constructed building to earn LEED Platinum certification in New York. Black Locust Lumber provided the wood for the sun baffles as well as decking in front of the entrance doors.

Black Locust makes a great sun baffle material. You don't want a material that needs any maintenance, but you do need a material that will last for a very, very long time. Black Locust wood meets those conflicting criteria. |

Black Locust is also used as a decking material for the front entrance. Once again the issue of maintenance and durability were key considerations. As both an administration and visitors entrance this area is only closed on major holidays. You don't want to try and close this entrance down for maintenance on the decking - and with Black Locust wood you won't have to. |
